Lower town

The lower town of Lissus was through the Middle Ages and the early modern period the center of the village. After the devastating earthquake of 1979 arose from the mosque ruins the Skanderbeg monument with a surrounding park, including the southwestern quarter of the ancient polis with the South Gate and the Port Gate in the West. Immediately below the grass could be found the remainders of the 1st century BC constructions. So here you have the chance to uncover coherent patiort, giving the occasion to refind Hellenistic Lissus and therefore explore the urban change during the Hellenistic period until the early imperial period.

Recent excavations point towards a large-scale destruction of Lissus in the 1st century BC.
