2013-09-24 : Balkan Insight, Concerns are growing in Albania for the future of an important mosaic from the early Christian era discovered back in the 1970s. Restoration works are poor and incomplete. The restoration process was funded by the German embassy and carried out by by Swedish NGO Cultural Heritage Without Borders. The restoration works were inaugurated at a ceremony on March 28 in the presence of the German ambassador in Tirana. Lejla Hadzic, regional coordinator for Heritage Without Borders, admits the stucco used in the mosaic restoration has partly deteriorated, but denies that the restoration work was poor. The mosaic was not damaged or threatened, and only the stucco around it was touched, a problem that was solved last week, she said.
